How Dedicated Hosting Operates
When we talk about hosting web servers, there are 3 main types - shared web hosting web servers, VPS (Virtual Private Servers) and dedicated hosting servers. Shared web servers accommodate many customers and so the system resources per hosting account are restricted, virtual private server accounts give you more server configuration autonomy, but also influence other private virtual hosting servers on the hardware node if used imprudently, and dedicated servers give you the chance to carry out everything you see fit without messing with anyone else.
Why would you need a dedicated hosting server?
Dedicated servers are usually much more expensive than shared servers or private virtual hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The explanation is very simple. If your firm has a resource-swallowing web site, or simply has very special web server setup requirements, the most appropriate option would be a dedicated server. For someone who is inclined to invest in safety and stability, the greater price is of no concern. You receive complete root access and can use 100 percent of the physical server's system resources without anyone else sharing these resources and intervening with your online portals.
Hardware configurations
The majority of web hosting companies, including us at Logic Empower, provide several hardware configurations you can choose from depending on your needs. The hardware configurations include different kinds of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM and hard drive sizes and different web traffic usage quotas. You can select a hosting Control Panel, which is useful software if you wish to use the web server for website hosting purposes only and prefer not to resort to a Secure Shell console for all the modifications you will be making. We provide 3 types of web hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.
The web hosting Control Panel of your choosing
If you are a confident Linux user (our dedicated web hosting servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could manage your dedicated server via an SSH connection exclusively. That, though, could be awkward, even more so if you choose to grant full root access to someone else who has less technical expertise than yourself. This is why having hosting Control Panel software activated is an excellent idea. The Hepsia web hosting CP user interface that we offer does not offer root privileges and is mainly suitable for somebody who has a lot of web pages that absorb plenty of resources, but would rather manage the web portals, databases and email addresses through an intuitive Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting CPs, on the other hand, give you full root access and offer 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell web hosting plans instead of using the server just for yourself, you should choose one of these two.
Web server monitoring and backup procedures
Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated hosting server and of backing it up. In case of a problem with your server, like a non-responsive Apache or an outage, it is desirable to have some kind of monitoring system enabled. Here at Logic Empower the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated hosting server too. Backups are also an additional feature - the web hosting distributor offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could pick a type of RAID that would allow you to have the same data on 2 server hard drives as a protective measure in case of a hard disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have given root access deletes something by accident.
