Transferring an existing domain name involves switching the registrar company that handles the domain name registration service, so after the transfer itself, you will have to manage things like renewal payments or DNS record modifications through the new domain name registrar. The transfer procedure is standard with most universal and country-specific TLD extensions. Certain country-code extensions are more specific and involve different procedures, but in the general case transferring a domain name entails several necessary steps and one of them is unlocking the domain name. The domain lock is a safety feature, which is being adopted by more and more domain registry operators. It is a standard feature supported by all generic TLDs. If a domain name is locked, it will not be possible to initiate a transfer procedure, so no one can even try to take your domain. The domain lock can be removed only through the account where the domain is registered and all new domain names that support this feature are locked by default the moment they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Cloud Hosting

Locking and unlocking a domain name registered through our company is incredibly easy. This can be done through the Hepsia Control Panel, which is included with our Linux cloud plans, and will take exactly two mouse clicks. All your domain names will be listed in alphabetical order in the Domain Manager section of the Hepsia Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the registrar lock option, you will see a padlock-like symbol. Click on it once and you’ll see the current status of the domain name. Click for the second time and you will alter its status. The update will propagate momentarily without the need for you or for our company to do anything else for the status to be ‘refreshed’ on WHOIS lookup websites, so you can continue with the transfer right away.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you would like to transfer a domain name from our company to another registrar and you’ve got a semi-dedicated server account, you will be able to get the domain name ready with just a few clicks of the mouse. All your domain registrations will be listed in a separate section of the Hepsia Control Panel – the exact same tool via which you will administer your hosting account. If a particular gTLD or ccTLD supports the registrar lock feature, you will see a padlock icon. You can find out whether the domain name is locked or not by clicking on that icon once and you can update the status by clicking for a second time. This is all it takes and there will be nothing else that you or our company will have to do, so you can start the domain name transfer straight away. The update will take effect momentarily, so you will not have to wait for the status to be updated on WHOIS lookup websites.
