If you'd like to forward a domain that you have to a different domain or subdomain, a good way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain address being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it is forwarded to. That way, if you use a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be redirected to the Internet site you have created, but it'll also appear in the browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all the visitors from various subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because such a record set up for the main domain name renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting plan through our company and you would like to set up a CNAME record, it'll take you a few clicks to get it done. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted within your account via the Hepsia Control Panel included with each and every plan and adding a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, choosing the type, which will be CNAME in this case, entering the actual record value and saving the change. If you have never added this kind of record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial which you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll help you with this task. If you have created a site using another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you would like to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different provider, for example Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a few clicks inside your CP.
